What do I do if I’m injured at a work-related function?

A work-related function can be anything from a company picnic or a game held during normal work hours. The courts will examine specific aspects of the function to see if it was inside the course of employment. For example if an employee would lose their day’s pay if they did not attend the function; this would be considered a mandatory event. In addition, the courts will look at the following factors to determine inside or outside employment: the extent of requirements of attending the function, the benefits that the company has from the function and the location of the function.

If the event was mandatory and on company property, there may be a case for workers’ compensation if you were injured at the function. It is important to reach out to a skilled workers’ compensation attorney to further understand employees’ rights in the instance of injury at a work-related function.
